Firearms licence medical certificate
A firearms licence medical certificate is required for anyone who wishes to obtain or renew a firearms licence in Estonia. The process involves several steps and the provision of accurate information in accordance with applicable law.

Application process
The first step is a psychiatrist's appointment to assess mental health. No family doctor's referral is needed to see a psychiatrist, and a family doctor cannot arrange a psychiatrist appointment any faster.
Once you have the psychiatrist's assessment, you can book a family doctor appointment for the health examination. The doctor assesses your general state of health and, if there are no contraindications, issues the certificate.
Before the appointment, fill in the health declaration in the national patient portal terviseportaal.ee. If you cannot complete it electronically, it can be filled in on paper at the appointment — this adds 10 € to the service price.
Please bring with you
- the psychiatrist's certificate;
- identity document;
- any aids used permanently or temporarily (glasses, contact lenses, hearing aid, prostheses, etc.).
During the examination, blood pressure is measured, visual acuity and field of vision are checked, and the applicant's general state of health is assessed.
Important to know
- If a health condition precludes issuing the certificate, the doctor will not issue it. The consultation fee is not refunded.
